Michele Wymer brings to URLI nearly a decade of service in the United States Senate.  She is currently a Partner at the Kyhle House Group, a top tier International Business and Government Relations consultancy, based in Washington DC and the San Francisco Bay Area.

As a longtime senior staff member on the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Michele traveled overseas extensively conducting oversight of U.S. foreign assistance programs in more than 60 countries. Michele provided policy guidance to Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and former Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire in their roles as subcommittee Ranking Member.

Charged with authoring annual legislation that determined operational and programming funding levels for the U.S. Department of State, USAID, Michele’s subcommittee oversaw all independent international agencies and commissions.

With extensive experience navigating the channels of multilateral assistance for international development banks, organizations and programs, Michele also offers broad strategic analysis to URLI, as it seeks to scale UniSkript technologies and literacy solutions in various parts of the world.

In addition to working closely with senior U.S. government officials at State, USAID, DoD, Treasury, NSC, and various agencies, Michele has worked extensively with outside interest groups including NGOs, foundations, academic institutions, and corporations, as well as with senior foreign government officials and their ambassadors to the United States.

During her tenure on the Appropriations Committee, Michele focused in particular on Global health initiatives, public-private partnerships, economic development, agriculture and global food security, educational and cultural exchanges, refugee and women’s issues, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, climate change and the environment, and democracy and governance programs. Prior to serving on the Appropriations Committee, Michele served on the staff of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi as a policy advisor on Homeland Security, Judiciary, Foreign Relations and Veterans issues.

Michele attended Mississippi State and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Spanish and Public Relations. Having also earned a Masters in Foreign Relations from Georgetown University, Michele is fluent in Spanish and spent time in both Greece and Spain studying the Mediterranean Middle East.

A Colorado native, Michele and her husband Steve have three children – Jack, Cooper and Joy.
